The Yoruba monachial system presents an enviable democratic governance system that is unrivalled in the world. Every man has a link to the palace through various categories of chiefs who take responsibilities for their jurisdictions transmitting information both upwards to the king and downwards on matters of state. Hence, Yoruba kings are always up to date on relevant social issues, holding consultations on a regular and organized basis.
The palace remains the center of consultative assemblies including governance, justice and commerce where high chiefs and the king hold court with senior advisers.
They also run enviable judicial systems under the monarchy that allows for delegation of duties among the various chiefs. This heritage informs the formation of the Elders Forum to allow Yorubas in Diaspora communicate the wishes of our ever enlarging community with our royal households at home, thereby, contributing to the social emancipation of the Yoruba race at large.
